Visitor

I had a hungry visitor show up early this winter..keeping a close eye on the red squirrels at the birdfeeders that are bankrupting me. I enthusiastically endorse its mission!

Excited

I'm pretty excited..first of all the long range forecasts seem to indicate a warming trend..into the 40's by the end of the week..and then above freezing for the last week of the month..and in March..the average high bumps up from 35 on the first to 46 on the last..plus..I just subscribed to my favorite sporting magazine.. "The Maine Sportsman"..a plethora of fishing and hunting information with contributions from many outstanding guides and outdoors people , such as the authors of two blogs that I follow.."The Maine Outdoorsman" and "Wild Plants and Wooly Bears".

Sorry..more dog photos

Sorry about posting so many dog/winter photos..my fishing is at a complete standstill..I don't have a power auger to go ice fishing. I tried a hand auger a few weeks ago with terrible results. There are some rivers that are open all winter to fly fishing but I really don't feel like snowshoeing in to them to only spend 30 minutes in freezing cold water..so here I sit..counting down days to spring..I need to get creative but I've been thinking that for 30 plus years. (I didn't think that for the first 30 years). Maybe I will go sit under the tarp covering my boat for a while...

38 Days Till Spring

Only 38 days till Spring..and then what?.. Will all this change in a mere 38 days? Probably not and we may not be fishing too many streams by April 1st, but soon after we will...In the meantime..go with the flow of winter and think of refreshed lakes and ponds and VERY hungry salmon come ice out..

Tessie The New Pup

Here is our new Guiding Eyes For The Blind project that just landed in our house yesterday. As you can see, Tessi is pesterning Big Ray who is a wonderful "big brother" to the little pups that end up here so he can help with their training. He's an eager participant because he gets training kibbles whenever the little ones do. My wife does an amazing job with these dogs, bringing out the immense potential in them to become guide dogs. I think this is the 12th pup that she has trained. We'll have Tessie, who is just over 4 months old, for about 12-14 months before she will go to "college" in Yorktown Heights New York.
